Spring Classics Week 1 2017
Tour of Flanders, Scheldeprijs and Paris Roubaix ride and watch

31st March to 10th April 2017

For 2017, we will again be offering you the chance to spend 10 days at the Spring Classics.

You will start the week doing the sportive version of the Tour of Flanders and after this you will see 2 fantastic races, the 2017 Tour of Flanders and the 2017 Scheldeprijs before riding the 2017 Roubaix Challenge and the 2017 Paris – Roubaix Pro race.

After the 2017 Tour of Flanders Sportive you can see how it should be done the following day when the professionals take to the cobbles. Midweek, we will go to Schoten for the Scheldeprijs and we will be rounding the week off with the historic Paris – Roubaix. There will be plenty of time in between to ride this fantastic area.

The Hotels:

**** NH Hotel Gent:
The NH Gent Belfort hotel puts leisure travellers right in the heart of the city. A 5-minute walk takes you to sights like the cathedral, castle and belfry, plus you’ve got all the bars and restaurants you need just outside the door.

Rooms vary in style – some have a classic look with soft carpets, while others have teamed a hardwood floor with contemporary colours.

Breakfast is served in the breakfast room, where waffles and pancakes feature among a long line-up of dishes.

You will stay here on bed and breakfast basis.

**** Mercure Lille Roubaix Grand Hotel:
Situated in the very heart of Roubaix, a 15 minute drive from Lille itself, the Mercure Lille Roubaix Grand Hôtel is an Art Deco style building with archetypal mouldings, columns and glass work. This stylish and charming hotel is just 500m from the TGV station and just a few metres from the Metro station. All of the rooms have a contemporary feel, exuding well-being and tranquillity. After a long day, come and relax in the sauna.

Your stay here will include breakfast.

We are pleased to offer bike rental with many of our cycling tours in 2017.
Your bike will be delivered to your hotel on arrival and it will be collected from you on departure. All bikes come with 2 bottle cages, a bike pump, a saddle bag with tube, tyre levers and a tool. Please note that you have to bring your own pedals and helmet and of course cycling clothing.

Please note that if you get your own entry, you will have to queue in the morning before the race.

Saturday the 1st of April - Tour of Flanders sportive
Sports Tours International offers you the opportunity to ride the Tour of Flanders route in the Cyclo-Sportive the day before the pros tackle it. There are several different courses that can be attempted. Please note that for the Flanders Cyclo-Sportive the number of participants was recently reduced by 5000, the sportive is usually over subscribed and that entries were not available on the day of the event in 2016. There are four choices of event to enter: 75km  and 130km sportives, both from Oudenaarde, and 180km and the full 230km distance from Antwerp. Sports tours international will transport you from Ghent to the start of your chosen event and meet you at the finish. All the events end in Oudenaarde. All of the distances include the most notable climbs of the pro race.

For those not riding the Sportive, the Saturday will be at leisure in the city of Ghent.

Sunday the 2nd of April - The 101st Tour of Flanders Pro race
Tour of Flanders 2014 Today is the 101st edition of the Tour of Flanders Professional race for both Men and Women.
We will go to Oudenaarde where you can enjoy a full schedule of race-day events including the presentation and the start of the women’s race plus you can see the men come past once before watching the men’s and women’s finishes later in the day also in Oudenaarde.

After the race finishes we will take you back to Ghent from Oudenaarde.

Monday the 3rd of April:
We hope to repeat previous years programme where we went for a ride over to one of the hotels where some of the Pro teams are staying. Usually mechanics will be working on bikes and we will have the chance to chat and take some pictures. After this we will go for a short ride past the Schelde river and return to the hotel.

Tuesday the 4th of April:
After breakfast we will go for a morning ride to experience the peace and tranquillity of the Belgian country side. We will ride to the famous ‘Muur van Geraardsbergen’ which used to be one of the final climbs of the Tour of Flanders and featured prominently in many previous editions of the race but hasn’t for the past few years.
In the afternoon we will visit the Tour of Flanders museum in Oudenaarde where we will have a guided visit with cycling legend and multiple World Champion, Freddie Maertens. We will finish the day with the unmissable Belgian Beer brewery visit. You can sample some beers and taste some local cheeses and other snacks during our guided visit.

Today we travel to Antwerpen for the start of the 2017 Scheldeprijs. We will ride out with those of you who want to ride today. We plan to catch the race 3 times before returning to the finish where we can follow the remainder on a large TV screen 100m from the finish. Following the race we will take the minibuses back to Ghent.

Thursday the 6th of April:
After breakfast today we travel from Ghent to Roubaix where we spend 4 nights with evening meal, bed and breakfast included at the Hotel Mercure Roubaix.
As it will be busy in Roubaix, we will reserve a restaurant for lunch ahead of arrival at the hotel. (payable locally). During the afternoon we will ride over to one of the cobbled sections and we will ride to the Forest of Arenberg on the cobbles.
If you are riding the Roubaix Challenge on Saturday then this will be your opportunity to train on the cobbles and play around with tyre pressures.

Friday the 7th of April:
After breakfast, we will ride to the end of the Forest of Arenberg and watch the various Pro Teams come past on their reconnaissance day. Usually, many of the teams stop for a chat and photos.
We will then load the bikes onto the coach and travel to Roubaix, where we can take some photos of the Velodrome. You will have the opportunity to buy some souvenirs from the Roubaix club shop like a cobble on a plinth.

Saturday the 8th of April 2017 - Paris Roubaix Challenge
Lampre team After an early breakfast, we will take you down to the start of the 2017 Paris Roubaix Challenge. At the end, we’ll be there for you at the finish in the Velodrome in Roubaix. In 2016 the showers were open to the public so hopefully you can get access again.
After everybody has finished, we will take you back to the hotel in Roubaix so we are well located to see the pro race the day after.
