The Gran Fondo New York 2017
18th to 22nd May 2017
With the race motto ‘Be a Pro for a Day’ the international Gran Fondo New York will have its 7th edition on May 21 in New York. This Gran Fondo through Manhattan and neighbouring boroughs has an ever growing number of participants. The 5000 riders from 70 different countries make this the biggest Gran Fondo in the US.
(Event Date 21st May)
The Campagnolo GFNY World Championship NYC will be held on May 21. 5000 riders from over 96 countries are competing for the crown on a challenging 160km course with over 2500m of climbing. Riders, who finished in the top 10% of their age group at previous GFNY events, receive a start spot in the racer corral at the front. Colombian Camila Cortes and New Yorker Mike Margarite are set to defend their 2016 titles.
You can choose between the 80km or the full 160km courses. From the start on George Washington Bridge the course follows the Hudson River northwards. The Manhattan Skyline will appear further and further away. You will pass several parks and suburbs like Palisades, Piermont and then you will tackle the 6km long Bear Mountain. This is where the shorter distance will finish. The long course riders will ride past Harriman State Park, Ramapo and West Nyack, in the direction of the finish at Fort Lee, near George Washington Bridge.
GFNY World, the global cycling marathon brand, which started off with just one event, the Gran Fondo New York, is now a cycling race series of 14 events taking place around the World. All the GFNY World events offer participants the established, trusted GFNY experience complemented with each location’s local flair.
All cyclists taking part can qualify for the regional championships in Asia, Europe and Latin America and the Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC.
At each GFNY event, riders enjoy
- Closed roads or police-moderated traffic with right-of-way at all intersections
- Chip timing
- Rankings based on finish time and a podium awards ceremony
- Finisher medal
- Official neon green race jersey, which is mandatory attire for the race
- Uniform set of rules and consistent rider experience
- A race in an attractive tourism destination for cyclists and family
GFNY World races offer a consistent, high-quality rider and family experience across all events. Riders get to BE A PRO FOR A DAY on challenging, scenic courses with a professional level of support.
Amongst the events are now some multi day events in Italy and France, widening the appeal of the GFNY series to cyclists.
