The 2017 Etape du Tour is your opportunity to ride a stage 18 of the 2017 Tour de France. You will ride a fully supported replica of a Tour de France stage, on 100% closed roads on exactly the same route as the Pros will do just days later. Sports Tours International is an official tour operator of the 2017 Etape du Tour. We will have a wide selection of hotels (see below) in the Briancon area, the start town with guaranteed entry, airport transfers and event support.

The start village is the ideal place to stay for the 2017 Etape du Tour. We will be offering a variety of hotels. Below you find a summary of the logistics

  • Friday – Airport transfers
  • Saturday – The event EXPO and registration are today in Briancon
  • Sunday – Ride the short distance to the start, ride the Etape and descend back down from the Col d’Izoard to your hotel
  • Monday – Transfer back to the airport

What’s included with your Etape du Tour travel package?
We have been working on the Etape du Tour as official UK tour operator for a lot of years. We provide excellent travel packages with staff support so you can focus on the riding. We have 2 star, 3 star and 4 star hotel options and hotel stays are available for 3 nights on the advertised board basis.

Your choice of hotels:

** Chalet Saint Bernard Montgenevre:
The chalet hotel Saint Bernard is located in Montgenevre, not far from the Italian border. Montgenevre is 10km away from Briancon, the location of the event expo, registration and the start of the 2017 Etape du Tour.

We have allocated this chalet to self-driving guests. We suggest that you drive down to registration on the Saturday with your bike in the car, leave your car parked in Briancon overnight and then ride back up to Montgenevre which will be a good little warm up and bike test. On Etape day you then ride down to the start and your car will be in Briancon after you have finished.

The chalet hotel has recently been renovated and it is located in the centre of the village of Montgenevre. (altitude 1860 metres) near to the church (don’t worry, no bells ring at night). The chalet has a cosy ambiance and it is simply furnished. There is a south facing terrace with a nice mountain view where you can enjoy your breakfast if you wish.

All rooms have en suite facilities and there is a lounge and large outside terrace. Your bike can be kept with you in your room and there is free parking nearby. There is also free WIFI available.

*** Plein Sud Hotel Chantemerle:
We will stay at this hotel on a Half Board basis, with breakfast and evening meals included.

Hôtel Plein Sud is located in Chantemerle, just 5km yards from Briancon. Guests can relax on the furnished terrace with a mountain view, swim in the heated swimming pool or take a massage.

All the rooms at Hôtel Plein Sud face south and feature a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. They all have a private bathroom with a bath or a shower and a hairdryer. Each also offers a balcony with a mountain view.

Breakfast is served every morning in the communal lounge. Dinners are available at the on-site restaurant and guests can also relax with a drink from the bar.

**** Parc Hotel Briancon:
Parc Hotel in Briancon has 71 spacious rooms, which have been recently renovated in 2014. All of them are comfortable and they offer a great view of the mountain or of the historical city centre.

Guests have free access to an indoor swimming pool and for an additional fee can also access the sauna.

Guest rooms are equipped with satellite TV and have views of the town or the Prorel Mountains. Each has an en suite bathroom with a shower.

This hotel features a restaurant and guests can choose to pay to have their evening meals at the hotel, or visit one of the many restaurants in Briancon. A buffet breakfast is prepared every morning and is served in the hotel’s dining room.

*** Suite Home Briancon:
Our stay here will be on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Featuring a heated indoor swimming pool and sauna, both with free access, Suite Home Briancon is right in the centre of Briancon.

The rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with a shower. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel.

Suite Home Briancon Serre Chevalier provides a buffet breakfast every day. There is an on-site bar and the hotel just a short walk from a selection of restaurants and shops in the centre of Briançon.

** Clubhotel Frejus in Villeneuve:
Your stay here will be on a Half Board basis, with breakfast and evening meals included, as well as afternoon tea.

This basic club hotel has everything you’ll need during your stay, and is located just a short ride from Briancon.  The Frejus has a very welcoming lounge and bar area, complete with TV and a mesmerising open log fire.

There is WiFi access throughout the hotel to keep you connected.

**** Grand Hotel Chantemerle:
The Grand Hotel in the Chantemerle area of the Serre Chevalier Valley is a 4 star hotel. The hotel is being completely refurbished for the 2016 winter ski season and as such for next summer as well for your stay here during the Etape du Tour weekend.

The hotel is a traditional mountain Lodge style hotel and it is located in the centre of Chantemerle village (Hautes Alpes). It is an ideal place to spend your Etape du Tour weekend due to its location in the heart of Chantemerle, close to Briancon. The hotel has 60 rooms, which have all been completely refurbished for winter 2016.
All rooms have bathroom or shower, hair dryer, TV, phone with self-wake up call facilities and a safe. Free WIFI access is available. A majority of the south facing rooms have balconies and breathtaking views of the village and the slopes. After an active day, relax in the hotel’s lounge or enjoy the sunny terrace. At Grand Hotel you will find a friendly atmosphere and moon values traditions. The Grand Hotel propose as well a large breakfast buffet and the evening meals as well as a secure room to store your bike.

**** Grand Aigle Hotel Villeneuve:
We will stay here on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Located in Serre Chevalier Ski Resort, Le Grand Aigle Hotel & Spa offers a sauna, hot tub and massage treatments. Free WiFi access is provided throughout.

Decorated in a mountain style, all rooms feature a flat-screen TV, telephone, minibar, wardrobe, dressing table, desk, Nespresso coffee machine and safety deposit box. The en suite bathroom includes a hairdryer and free toiletries.

A continental breakfast is provided each morning at Le Grand Aigle Hotel & Spa. Guests can also enjoy traditional mountain cuisine in the on-site restaurant, or try one of the many local restaurants.

** Langley Hotel La Vieille Ferme – Villeneuve:
The Langley Hotel La Vieille Ferme (the old farm) is located in La Salle Les Alpes. La Salle Les Alpes is also called Villeneuve and the village will welcome a stage finish of the 2017 Tour de France. The village is located at 8.5km from Briancon which is the location of the Etape du Tour start.

Built in 1722 in a classical style, the Langley Hotel La Vieille Ferme was originally a large farmhouse. The hotel is decorated in rustic style and it is a blend of the best from Provence and Italy. With its pleasant atmosphere, it is famous for being the area’s most charming hotel. It also has a relaxing bar. Your stay here will be on a bed and breakfast basis. The on-site restaurant is not open for evening meals in the summer.

Your stay here will be on bed and breakfast basis with an early breakfast available on Etape du Tour day. There are many restaurants nearby within walking distance to take your evening meals.

** Hotel Club MMV Serre Chevalier L’Alpazur:

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR ROOM IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL 18.00 ON ARRIVAL DAY.
The Hotel Club mmv Serre Chevalier ‘L’Alpazur’ is at the entrance of the village of Monêtier Les Bains in the Serre Cevalier Valley. As this hotel is located at 15km distance from Briancon which is the location of the Etape du Tour registration, EXPO village and start and finish, we have earmarked this hotel as available for those who are driving only.

At the foot of the Col du Lautaret, the gateway to the National Park des Ecrins, with the fortified town of Briançon at the opposite end of the valley, leading into the National Park de Queyras, Serre Chevalier has all the right ingredients to make a real feast of a holiday.

Friday July 14th, 2017:

If you are making use of our airport transfer service, please give us your flight arrival details. We have arranged coach transfers at various times throughout the day from both Geneva and Turin airport. Please note, flights are going to be in high demand on this date, so we advise you to book early to guarantee a flight seat and a good price.

Saturday July 15th:
After breakfast, please make your way to the EXPO and registration area in Briancon where you will be able to register for the 2017 Etape du Tour. After this, you’ll have some time to take a short ride and make sure your bike is in full working order to the event on Sunday.

Sunday July 16th – L’Etape du Tour 2017:
We anticipate a 07:00/08:00 start for the Etape, so we have organised early breakfasts at all hotels so you can get to the start early to ensure everyone is lined up in the right pens for the start. The organisers allocate pens according to likely finish time and historic Etape performance, therefore faster riders start nearer the front and the slower riders at the back. Please note, we have no influence over your starting pen.
The Etape du Tour is a closed road sportive. There will be water stops en-route and mechanical assistance provided by MAVIC. Along the route, there are certain times that you must have passed certain spots, otherwise you may be swept up by the broom wagon.

The return from the finish:
You will descend back down from the finish on top of the Col d’Izoard to your hotels. For those who have booked hotel packages with the evening meal included, we will ensure that there is a later meal time tonight.

Monday July 17th:
After breakfast we will start running transfers back to Geneva and Turin airports. If you are making your own way home, you will need to leave the hotel mid morning.

PLEASE NOTE, AT ETAPE REGISTRATION, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PRESENT A DOCTOR’S NOTE STATING THERE ARE NO KNOWN MEDICAL REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT COMPETE. Single travellers and twin to share:
We welcome single travellers on our tours and holidays as it is a great way to join a like-minded group of people and you will make lots of new friends. If you would like to join our group as a single traveller we can offer you two options. A single room or if you want to avoid the single supplement then you can make use of our ‘twin to share’ option. We will pair you up with another traveller (of the same sex) and you can enjoy the event without having to pay extra.
