The 2017 Tour de France arrives in the Serre Chevalier area on Wednesday July 19th with a finish in La Salle Les Alpes followed on Thursday by a classic mountain stage from Briancon to the summit of the Col d’Izoard and finally on Friday a start from nearby Embrun. Spend 3 nights in La Salle Les Alpes in one of the 2 hotels that we have available here and you will be right in the action for these 3 Alpine stages.
The Serre Chevalier valley is about 15 kilometres long and runs from the village of Monetier Les Bains at the foot of the Col du Galibier and Col du Lautaret on one side to the town of Briancon at the foot of the Col d’Izoard on the other side. Following the valley from Monetier to Briancon you will first come to the village of La Salle Les Alpes (also called Villeneuve) and then to Chantemerle (also called Saint Chaffrey) before reaching Briancon.

Watch the final of the 2017 Tour de France unfold on the mountain roads of the Alps and watch the 2017 Tour de France peloton as the riders tackle some very tough stages in the Alps. Spectators and cyclists will enjoy watching the riders come past on these mountain stages and cyclists will like the opportunity to tackle famous Tour de France climbs like the Col du Vars, Col d’Izoard and the Col du Galibier.

** Langley Hotel La Vieille Ferme – La Salle les Alpes:
The Langley Hotel La Vieille Ferme (the old farm) is located in La Salle Les Alpes. La Salle Les Alpes is also called Villeneuve and the village will welcome a stage finish of the 2017 Tour de France. The village is located at 8.5km from Briancon which is the location of the start of one of the stages as well the day after.
Built in 1722 in a classical style, the Langley Hotel La Vieille Ferme was originally a large farmhouse. The hotel is decorated in rustic style and it is a blend of the best from Provence and Italy. With its pleasant atmosphere, it is famous for being the area’s most charming hotel. It also has a relaxing bar. Your stay here will be on a bed and breakfast basis. The on-site restaurant is not open for evening meals in the summer.

** Clubhotel Frejus in Villeneuve – La Salle les Alpes:
The Clubhotel Frejus is a basic English run club hotel that has everything you’ll need during your stay. The hotel is located at just 10km from Briancon in La Salle Les Alpes which is also called Villeneuve and the village will welcome a stage finish of the 2017 Tour de France. The village is located at 8.5km from Briancon which is the location of the start of one of the stages as well the day after.
Your stay here will be on a half board basis, with breakfast, afternoon tea with hot drinks and cakes and a 3 course evening meal included.
The Frejus has a very welcoming lounge and bar area, complete with TV and there is WiFi access throughout the hotel to keep you connected.
The hotel has a garage for the safe storage of your bikes.
Tuesday July 18th – Arrival day:
Ahead of the Tour de France’s visit of the Southern French Alps, your hotel is available for you to check into today. You will stay the next 3 nights at either the 2* hotel Frejus on half board basis or the hotel Vieille Ferme on bed and breakfast basis. Both hotels are in La Salle Les Alpes so they are very well located near the 3 Alpine stages.
Wednesday July 19th – La Mure to La Salle Les Alpes:
There are two big, well-known climbs on the programme today. From La Mure, the Col de la Croix de Fer takes the riders into the Maurienne Valley and the Col du Galibier brings them back out of the valley again and over to the Serre Chevalier valley.
Thursday July 20th – Briancon to Col d’Izoard:
The start today is in Briancon and via the COl de Vars, the riders will tackle the Col d’Izoard for a summit stage finish. If you are cycling why not watch the Peloton come past on the Col de Vars or climb up to the Col d’Izoard and be there to watch the finish. Spectators can drive over to Guillestre and walk onto the lower slopes of the Izoard or Col de Vars to watch the riders start or finish the climbs.
Friday July 21st – Embrun to Salon de Provence:
As the stage start today is in Embrun which is about 40km away from la Salle Les Alpes. Make your way there and you are in the ideal place to see the build up to the start and get a great position to see the riders set off for today’s stage.
Saturday July 22nd – Departure day:
After breakfast it is time to check out of your hotel.

Single travellers and twin to share:
We welcome single travellers on our tours and holidays as it is a great way to join a like-minded group of people and you will make lots of new friends. If you would like to join our group as a single traveller we can offer you two options. A single room or if you want to avoid the single supplement then you can make use of our ‘twin to share’ option. We will pair you up with another traveller (of the same sex) and you can enjoy the event without having to pay extra.
